Everyone seems to have a different opinion on this. I think that the best position is about 3 or 4. I think the top position just attracts people randomly clicking without even looking so you would get a lot of clicks but no one really buying.
If you are in position 3 or 4 then people have taken the time to go through the list of ads to see which one suits them best. Just my opinion. Paula http://www.squidoo.com/make-money-online-wihout-spending-a-cent |

The real question is which ad position is better for your business? You want to analyze what position will give you the number of conversions/leads you want at the lowest cost. You may find that you don't convert very well unless you rank in the first 1-2 positions. But, depending on your ads/business you may find that when you rank in the 3-4 position you still convert well (getting a good number of leads for your business) at a lower cost.
Compare the CPC, conversion rate, and CPL for your keywords and that should help you decide what works for your site. |

The best ad position is where ROI (return on investment) is optimal.
So if in position 1 (mind you that 41% of clicks go to position 1) you pay $2 per click, in 100 clicks (cost = $200) you get one $100 sale that position is not good for you (loss = $100) But if in position 4 you pay $0.25 per click and in 200 clicks (cost = $50) you get one $100 sale, then that position is a winner (profit =$50). |
