Google cached pages

A customer rang the other day asking for a product supposedly on our website for a price that hasn't been valid for 3 or more years, when we looked into it, the price came as the result of a Google Search for that product.

The customer tried us on for 'that's the price you're advertising' which we resisted, the bottom line was we missed a sale as the customer accused us of being dishonest.

My questions;
Has anyone else experienced this?
If so how can it be fixed?
Are we doing something wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.
