Creating sitemap doesn't mean increasing your position on search engines but it helps to let them know about each and every pages you have in your websites. Because as they say sometimes some pages are somehow not indexed and if you create a sitemap and submit it to them it will make clear what pages are there in your website and will be easily indexed. Eventhough it doesn't largely help in your search position it will certainly help in showing your pages up on the search results depending upon the search query performed or some specific keywords matched.

It will have no effect on your position on search engines and is only used to inform them about urls that are available for crawling. The link below is from google and shows how to make a site map and what they are.

It is one of the many pieces to the seo puzzle. It will not help on it's own, but it is a part of the global seo strategy. When you add pages, you can resubmit the sitemap to Google. if Google sees that you are adding content on a regular basis, this is not something you have to keep doing in the long run. Hope this helps.

If you have enabled password protection for your Website, Sitemapper won't be able to scan your site. However, you do have a couple of options:
Temporarily disable password protection and then use Sitemapper to scan your Website. Once you're done creating your sitemap, turn your password protection back on.
Build a sitemap of a Website stored locally on your computer. For more information about how to do this, read How Do I Build a Sitemap of an Unpublished Website?

Sitemaps are often a great way to improve search engine visibility because it enables all pages to be found. With many websites, for example, the navigation is in flash or some other technology, such as AJAX, which makes it difficult or impossible to be crawled via search engines. Sitemaps correct this problem. Additionally, sitemaps are particularly useful for large websites, frequently updated websites, and websites full of archival content, whose pages are hard to reach via links.

There are two types of site maps. One is to provide to search engines to help them crawl your site. The other is one to put on your site to help your site visitors find things on your site. I used the Google Sitemap generator to develop one for search engines & submitted it to several search engines. It got my site indexed in a few hours. It also allows you to identify the most important pages to be indexed. I think that helped some concerning which pages got indexed.

First you check that which kind of your site,And if site you developed is so complicated
And other user might be confused then you create a site-map that user easily manage the site.
Than your site be a in good format and no of user can use site.
